EV Programs, Repair Shops Included in Biden Budget

March 30, 2022

The $5.8 trilion package includes investments in electric vehicles, highway charging stations and vehicle safety.

March 30, 2022—President Joe Biden is allocating $1 billion in advance appropriations to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as part of his $5.8 billion budget proposal for 2023.

The FHWA funding, designed to be used in conjunction with the newly formed Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, is aimed at ushering in the new National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program to help states build electric vehicle charging stations along Interstates.

The same budget also includes $400 million to further increase electric vehicle charging access and for important projects for independent vehicle repair shops related to vehicle safety, autonomous vehicles, electric vehicle deployment, and emissions reductions.
