DOJ to Probe Struggling Lordstown Motors

June 7, 2021—The Department of Justice is probing Lordstown Motors, the EV manufacturer that has come under scrutiny in recent months, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The investigation comes as the Securities and Exchange Commision is also looking into the company, regarding its move to become a public company and its representations about preorders.

It’s just the latest challenge for the manufacturer, which has taken hit after hit in the public eye. Several weeks ago, the EV startup amended its annual report with the SEC saying it was possible the company may no longer function within a year's time, which came after several declarations of large preorders for its truck, the Endurance, that would maintain production through 2022. The company later walked back that statement.

The manufacturer also saw its CEO and CFO resign.
