NHTSA Enhances Whistleblower Program

A new website will help whistleblowers determine what critical information to provide when submitting a claim.

June 22, 2021—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has taken a step to make it easier for whistleblowers to come forward, the organization announced in a press release.

The NHTSA has rolled out a new website that will assist whistleblowers in determining what information they should provide when submitting a claim.

“Safety is the top priority for NHTSA and the entire U.S. Department of Transportation,” NHTSA’s Acting Administrator Dr. Steven Cliff said in a statement. “Whistleblowers play a critical role in safeguarding our nation’s roadways, and we will do everything in our power to protect them.”

The organization may pay a monetary award to a whistleblower who provides original information that leads to the successful resolution of an enforcement action for violations of law. The amount of that award to a whistleblower is between 10 and 30 percent of collected monetary sanctions over $1 million.
