March 8, 2021—General Motors is eyeing a site in Spring Hill, Tenn. to build a new multibillion dollar battery factory, the Detroit Free Press reported.

This would be GM’s second battery factory, along with one that is currently being built in Northwest Ohio.

“General Motors and LG Energy Solutions via the Ultium Cells LLC joint venture are exploring the feasibility of constructing a second state-of-the-art battery cell manufacturing plant in the United States," GM spokesman Dan Flores told the publication. "We hope to have a decision on the potential project in the first half of 2021.”

GM is partnering with LG Energy Solutions for the new factory. The companies are expected to invest $2.2 billion in the project. It would create roughly 1,100 jobs.
