Oct. 20, 2020—Cruise, the self-driving car service, has recently acquired a permit from California regulators that will allow the company to test driverless vehicles on San Francisco's public roads.
The permit allows five autonomous vehicles to operate without a driver on specified roads, reports Tech Crunch. Extra restrictions have been put in place for safety such as the vehicles cannot exceed 30 miles per hour and they will not be tested during heavy fog or rain.
“Before the end of the year, we’ll be sending cars out onto the streets of SF—without gasoline and without anyone at the wheel. Because safely removing the driver is the true benchmark of a self-driving car, and because burning fossil fuels is no way to build the future of transportation,” wrote Dan Ammann, CEO of Cruise, on the company's blog.
