US Auto Sales Lowest in a Decade in 2022

Jan. 6, 2023

Chip and parts shortages put a dent in U.S. auto sales in 2022.

Jan. 6, 2023—Vehicle sales in the U.S. were down by their lowest in a decade in 2022, as chip and parts shortages contributed to an 8% drop.

According to an ABC News report, automakers reportedly sold “13.9 million cars, trucks, SUVs and vans last year as the parts shortage limited factory output amid high demand for new vehicles” making it the lowest since 2011.

Analysts expect 1 million to 14.8 million this year citing a strong Q4 and higher demand, but those numbers will still be short of the pre-pandemic total of 17 million per year.
