July 23, 2014—A new general session will be introduced at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) this year, providing a fundraising platform for scholarships.
The general session fundraising event was developed to replace scholarship donations that were traditionally raised by the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS). The symposium board of directors elected to defer its 2015 event.
The fundraising event will replace the usual Wednesday morning AAPEX town hall breakfast this year, running from 8–8:50 a.m. in the Venetian Palazzo Ballroom.
“As co-owner of AAPEX, we are truly pleased to create a new general session at AAPEX to serve as a fundraising platform for GAAS scholarships,” said Steve Handschuh, president and CEO of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association. “We are very mindful of the need to continually refresh the automotive aftermarket with young, talented people. The new AAPEX general session offers us the unique opportunity to unite all show attendees in a common goal of supporting the education of tomorrow’s technicians and automotive aftermarket industry participants.”
Steve Forbes, chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media, will give the keynote speech at the session. Forbes recently published a book called Money: How the Destruction of the Dollar Threatens the Global Economy and What We Can Do About It.
