Feb. 6, 2019—A business centered around teaching women auto and home repair has opened in Tennessee. Women Repair Zone, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was started by Bea Lurie, the former president and CEO of Girls Inc. of Chattanooga, Times Free Press reports.

The mission, Times Free Press reports, is to have female instructors teach women basic auto and home repair techniques. Classes include topics ranging from furniture repair and plumbing basics to how to change a tire. The hands-on workshops are limited to a group of eight students and lecture-workshops are limited to 10 students.

The goal is to keep the classes small and intimate.

"We are trying to balance the camaraderie piece, everyone having the opportunity to ask all the questions they want to ask and having the right space to do it," Lurie said to the Times Free Press.

Workshops are being held at different locations around the Chattanooga area based on the topic, Times Free Press reports. For auto and maintenance classes, Lurie is partnered with Kelly Subaru in Chattanooga.

"The workshops are just really fun," she said. "There's nothing more powerful to me than watching somebody who thought they couldn't do something learning how to do that skill."
