March 7, 2013—Texas state Sen. Carlos Uresti recently introduced Senate Bill 888, a piece of legislation that would make extensive changes to the current Texas state inspection and maintenance program for vehicles.
The bill includes a provision requiring that the state inspection and maintenance program would change the initial inspection from two to five years for passenger cars sold in the state and not previously registered in Texas or another state.
The inspection and maintenance program changes would apply to all gasoline-powered vehicles between five and 25 years old.
Under the existing state inspection and maintenance program, vehicles are inspected every year.
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has urged Texas independent repairers to contact their legislators and ask them to oppose Senate Bill 888.
