CCAR to Partner with MINDDRIVE

Aug. 28, 2013

Aug. 28, 2013—The Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR) announced Tuesday a new partnership with MINDDRIVE, a Kansas City-based nonprofit.

MINDDRIVE offers classes to inspire students to learn, expand their vision of the future and have a positive impact on urban workforce development. In the new partnership, CCAR will assist MINDDRIVE’s training efforts.

"CCAR is an important partner to MINDDRIVE in helping train our mentors, who in turn train our students in the importance of shop safety and being good stewards of the environment with our car projects,” said Linda Buchner, president of MINDDRIVE. “They've provided us with the tools needed to make our shop much more professional and a true expression of real world application for our students. Anyone that leaves MINDDRIVE to work in the automotive industry will be far ahead of their peers by having [CCAR] training."

Currently working with five area schools, MINDDRIVE has 24 students participating in its Automotive Design Studio class and 12 in its Contemporary Communications class. The students choose their course and are given the freedom to choose particular aspect of the project to their interests. Mentors help students discover and pursue their interests.
