May 13, 2021—Jarrell’s Autoboss, an Alabama repair shop, is offering a referral bonus in hopes of attracting more technicians, WKRG reported. The shop, based in Foley, Ala., will give existing employees $500 for referrals and the new hire will also receive $500 after working for three months. The plan was put in place in an effort to address a lack of talent they’ve been seeing. Owner Angie Jerrell believes the ongoing lack of talent specifically in the auto industry accompanied by expanded unemployment benefits are behind the struggles. Jerrell has coined the new initiative, “refer a tech get a check.”“Trying to figure out something that would make a difference because we’ve been on all the recruitment sites we’ve been on all the social media trying to hire for sometime, it’s always been difficult but now it feels like we’re hitting a brick wall,” Jerrell told the station.
