Tesla CEO Elon Musk has told employees the automaker is aiming to begin production of a $25,000 vehicle in 2023.

Sept. 10, 2021—Tesla CEO Elon Musk has told employees the automaker is aiming to begin production of a $25,000 vehicle in 2023.

According to a report from Electrek, Musk has said the vehicle unofficially referred to as the Tesla Model 2 could be "fully autonomous" and added the significantly lower price point can be achieved through the company's new battery manufacturing process.

The new vehicle has be linked to a hatchback design the company has been planning to produce at one of its factories in China and exporting globally. 

The article cites Musks as pondering whether the vehicle will even "come with a steering wheel and pedals," though whether the vehicle in fact have those features or not has not yet been confirmed.
