The electric SUV was developed in conjunction with Toyota, which is one of Subaru's largest investors, according to a report from Reuters. Toyota will build the Solterra for the time being in Japan, though Subaru may move production to the U.S. once it has "sufficient sales volume.

"The EV market is not mature yet, so we will respond to it by deepening our cooperation with Toyota," Subaru CEO Tomomi Nakamura said during a launch event.

The front-wheel drive variation of the EV SUV has a max range of 329 miles, while its all-wheel drive variant will have a max range around 285 miles. The EV SUV will make its U.S. debut Nov. 17 at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show.
