Shop Owners Offering Hefty Bonuses to Attract Techs

Two repair shops document what monetary commitments they are making to lure in new talent. 

Jan. 25, 2022—Shop owners and other businesses in need of technicians have begun offering sizable bonuses to lure prospective employees. 

Mark Smith, operator of five Midas locations in the Richmond, Va., told the Richmond Times-Dispatch he is offering a $6,000 signing bonus to qualified technicians. 

“I have more business than I can handle, and I could put five or six techs to work tomorrow,” Smith told the publication during a December interview.

Similarly, the company GRTC, which operates the transit system in the Richmond area is offering bonuses of up to $8,500, according to the report.
