Toyota Scaling Back Output

March 14, 2022

Company cites lingering effect of COVID and chip shortages as reason.

Mar. 14, 2022—Toyota announced that ongoing supply chain woes will cause it to scale back production in Japan for the next three months, according to reports from Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

Japan's top automaker expects to make cuts of 20% in April, by 10% in May, and by 5% in June, spokeswoman Shiori Hashimoto said Friday.

At one point, Toyota had raised production targets during its “recovery plan” to make up for lost production time to COVID and parts shortages, but industry delays continue to slow the automaker.
