Aug. 26, 2022—California intends to become the first state to ban gas-powered vehicles, targeting 2035 as its transition year to fully electric vehicles.
Margo Oge, leader of the EPAs’s transpiration and emissions program and EV expert, said the rule issued by the California Air Resources Board would make California would be the only government in the world to mandate zero-emission vehicles, as cited by Jalopnik.
California will require all new vehicles sold in the state to be free of fossil fuel emissions by 2035 with a benchmark of 35% to be achieved by 2026 and 68% by 2030.
At least 12 other states could adopt a similar policy because of the influence of California on the nation’s auto production and economy.
