Sept. 28, 2022—The U.S. Transportation Department (USDOT) reports that all 50 states, along with Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, have been approved for electric vehicle charging stations.
While it's not yet known how many charging stations the $5 billion allotment from the $1 trillion infrastructure bill will fund over the next five years, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said earlier this year that his department wasn’t going to dictate how states executed the program once rolled out, but that it would oversee that basic standards are met.
States are expected by the USDOT to fund DC Fast Chargers. According to Reuters, this means that “stations should have at least four ports capable of simultaneously charging four EVs and install EV charging infrastructure every 50 miles along interstate highways and be located within one mile of highways.”
