Stellantis has Fix for Fire Risk in 2017-2018 Pacifica PHEVs

Oct. 5, 2022

The automaker says it doesn't know the source but has figured out the solution.

Oct. 5, 2022—Automaker Stellantis says it can curb potential fire risks in its recalled 2017 and 2018 Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid minivans.

Though it doesn’t know the source of the issue, Stellantis has been able to simulate conditions that trigger a possible fire, which the fix corrects, said Green Car Reports

Pacifica owners will then be able to charge their vehicles and park them in their home garages again.

While a root cause hasn't been identified, the automaker said it has identified conditions that potentially cause a fire, which the fix addresses. This will allow owners to resume charging their Pacificas and parking them in garages, which Stellantis had been advising against since issuing the recall in February after hearing of 12 fires.

Stellantis will provide the work at no cost and intends to notify its vehicle owners soon.
