Jan. 24, 2023—California accounted for 40% of all zero-emissions sales in 2022, according to a report from Reuters.

About 19% of all cars sold in California were ZEVs. California Energy Commission’s database showed that 346,000 ZEVs were sold last year, with Tesla Model 3 as the leading vehicle of choice (95,000 units sold) and Tesla’s Model Y a close second (94,000 units sold).

Furthermore, the news outlet reported that Californians “bought about 51,000 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles last year and about 80,000 electric vehicle chargers were installed in the state in 2022.”
