TIA Issues Statement On Crumb Rubber

May 27, 2016

May 27, 2016—The Tire Industry Association (TIA) issued a statement on Thursday that its  Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) found that the uses of the crumb rubber in every application posed no significant health or environmental risk.

Recent media claims have said that the recycled rubber may be harmful to people and the environment.

The rubber is used in applications such as artificial turf or playground surfaces.

"Each of these studies validated the position that crumb rubber poses no significant health or environmental risk. For this reason, the EAC and TIA support the continued use of crumb rubber in synthetic turf, athletic fields and playgrounds as well as other product applications," TIA executive vice president Roy Littlefield said.
