United Auto Workers, FCA Experience Tension

Oct. 2, 2015

Oct. 2, 2015—Workers inside the Fiat Chrysler plants are speculating on whether the company will enforce various rules and regulations or whether the United Auto Workers (UAW) will call for a strike, according to a report by USA Today.

At the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, the human resources department posted a notice on Wednesday warning employees of a “Zero Tolerance for Poor Quality.” Some workers took it as a message connected to the recent contract vote.

"Employees who are found not following plant Standard Work Instructions … will be disciplined up to and including discharge," the notice says, according to the report.

"This initiative was the result of feedback from an internal town hall with (Jefferson North Assembly) team leaders that focused on quality," said Jodi Tinson, Fiat Chrysler spokeswoman, according to the report.  "The team leaders asked for support to ensure that employees, many of whom are new or temporary part time, understand the need to build to the process in each station."

Early steps are being taken for a strike, according to the report.
