FRANKFURT, Sept. 18, 2014—The German Federation for Motor Trades and Repairs (ZDK) on Wednesday launched the prototype for a new kind of diagnostic tool this week at Automechanika in Frankfurt.
The tool consists of a vehicle communication interface and special software that can access OEM-manufacturer portals, regardless of which hardware or software the portals usually require.
ZDK said the diagnostic tool allows shops to run diagnostics on European vehicles compliant with certain emissions standards or through reflashing.
Similar to shops in the U.S., easy access to repair information is an issue for European shops, as well.
“The standardized access to all of the maintenance and repair information data from manufacturer’s is a big achievement for our association,” said Jurgen Karpinski, president of ZDK.
The association completed two detailed trials with the product and it is expected to go on sale next year.
