Sept. 9, 2014—Standard Motor Parts (SMP) announced on Monday that it has begun a candidate search for its “Are You TechSmart” automotive scholarship.
The SMP will award one “talented and deserving” future technician with a $5,000 scholarship to the college or technical school in which he or she will be enrolled, according to an SMP release.
To enter, students are asked to visit the TechSmart website and upload a photo and/or video of themselves as well as answer several questions. All eligible entries will be judged based on relevance, creativity and thoughtfulness by TechSmart technician John Fillipone, a master technician and owner of Piedmont Tire and Auto.
“With the ‘Are you TechSmart’ scholarship search, we are looking for a talented future tech who embodies the characteristics of the TechSmart brand,” said Phil Hutchens, vice president of engine management marketing for SMP. “Someone who is not only dedicated to pursuing a career in the automotive field, but who is also excited about cutting-edge technical advances, product innovation, and meeting the challenges of the ever changing automotive technology.”
Eligible candidates must be legal U.S. residents, who are at least 18 years of age and no more than 34 at the time of entry and are either currently enrolled full-time in high school, or enrolled full-time in an accredited two- or four-year college, university or post-high school educational program.
