NHTSA Introduces Compliance Assistance Program

HNTSA unveiled a program to help "regulated entities"—including manufacturers of tires, vehicles, trailers and vehicle equipment—comply with federal safety regulations.

Feb. 27, 2018—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has unveiled a Compliance Assistance Program to help "regulated entities"—including manufacturers of tires, vehicles, trailers and vehicle equipment—comply with federal safety regulations, Tire Business reports.

"In addition to vigilant enforcement, NHTSA also serves as a federal resource that small and large manufacturers can contact for guidance on federal regulations," NHTSA deputy director Heidi King said. "A transparent partnership with manufacturers assures the development of safe, reliable vehicles and equipment."

The new compliance assistance program will help NHTSA achieve the highest standards of excellence in regulated industries by providing informal compliance guidance to current and prospective manufacturers, the agency said.

NHTSA's Compliance Assistance Program will offer a new, user-friendly dedicated website that will evolve over time, according to the agency.

"NHTSA aims to provide quick, straightforward responses to better direct entities toward the appropriate resources to help understand their obligations under federal law," it said.

Details about the Compliance Assistance Program, including a set of frequently asked questions and their answers, can be found online at nhtsa.gov.
