August 6, 2018—Toyota announced the second version of its zero-emissions, hydrogen fuel cell electric Class 8 truck, known internally as "Beta", reported Supply Chain Drive.

Toyota's "Project Portal" began operations in early 2017, where its version 1.0 "Alpha" truck was put through nearly 10,000 miles of testing and real world drayage operations around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, according to the report.

"Beta" will begin operations in the fall.

Toyota's "Project Portal" 2.0 will feature trucks with a driving range of more than 300 miles per fill, reported Supply Chain Drive. Toyota continues to work towards its own Environmental Challenge 2050 goals to eliminate CO2 emissions from its logistics facility at the Port of Long Beach.
