STEM Provides More Jobs for Women

June 12, 2019

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers are giving women 30 percent more income than the usual clerical jobs set aside for them.

June 12, 2019—The Tesda Women’s Center (TWC) sponsored a stakeholder forum for the nontraditional trades-automotive sector, asking them what jobs were open for women. According to reports from Business Inquirer, women only make up 10 percent of the STEM jobs (including the auto sales service market), thus opening up more opportunities for women.

Joey Turano of Hyundai Auto Resources Inc. says they may be needing hundreds of women for jobs in their assembly and car manufacturing programs. “Women are more detail-oriented, and they make good technical inspectors.”

TWC will also design courses to address the lack of women employees who are in demand in the automotive sector. According to Joseph Bautista of Isuzu Philippines Corp., these jobs will be in demand for years to come as we have a manufacturing resurgence with the advent of the new public utility vehicle models.
