California Unveils Disciplinary Record Search Tool

If the tool is successful, similar strategies could be enacted with other state-licensed practitioners such as doctors or dentists, lawmakers said.

Feb. 18, 2021—California’s Bureau of Automotive Repair has released a new map-based search tool that will allow consumers to check the disciplinary records of auto shops, NBC Bay Area reported.

The implementation was prompted by a 2019 event in which a shop ruined a driver’s engine during a routine oil change. The shop was later found to have failed seven state inspections. With the new tool, lawmakers hope similar situations will be eliminated.

If the tool is successful, similar strategies could be enacted with other state-licensed practitioners such as doctors or dentists, lawmakers said.
