Jan.9, 2018—Hitachi Automotive Systems and Clarion have announced the development of “Park-by-Memory,” an autonomous parking technology that remembers the environment surrounding users home parking spaces.
The technology uses Clarion’s external recognition technology with steering and brake actuators in combination with integrated vehicle control technology by Hitachi Automotive Systems.
“Park-by-Memory,” also uses SurroundEye, a camera system by Clarion, that is fitted to the left and right sides of the front and back of the vehicle, with detection data on surrounding structures obtained using sonar signals as well as GPS positional information.
Using the recognition data from SurroundEye, the parking system can autonomously park in parking spaces of various shapes, including spaces only designated by white lines. The system uses existing general vehicle GPS information instead of using a specialized system, which is why the system has had an early introduction.
Moving forward, the companies will aim for the initial adoption of this system through proposals to automotive manufacturers.
