Recent sales data indicates that, in the U.S., the Tesla Model 5 is the top-selling electric vehicle, but the Chevrolet Bolt EV is closing the gap.

Jan. 3, 2018—Inside EV’s most recent sales data indicates that, in the U.S., the Tesla Model 5 is the top-selling electric vehicle, but the Chevrolet Bolt EV isn’t far behind.

Using data through the month of November 2017, Inside EV noted that Tesla sold 22,085 units of its Model 5, while 20,070 Bolt EVs were sold.

The top five in EV sales was rounded out by the Toyota Prius Prime (18,516), the Chevy Volt, 18,412, and the Tesla Model X (18,015).

The next closest competitor in terms of EV sales was the Nissan Leaf, which moved just 11,128 units throughout the first 11 months of 2017.

Tesla’s Model S was the best selling EV in the U.S. for the second straight year, though its sales dipped from 2016 numbers, down from 28,896 units in 2016.

Also of note: approximately 8,400 Chevy Bolts were sold from September to November, representing an annualized rate of 33,600.

GM has two more fully electric vehicles scheduled to launch in 2018, too, with another 18 more by 2023, as The Motley Fool reported.
