Feb. 18, 2013—The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) applauded Senators Roger Wicker and David Vitter for advocating for the reversal of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to allow E15 gasoline into the fuel supply.
E15 is a blend of fuel containing 15 percent volume ethanol and 85 percent volume gasoline. Some studies have shown that gasoline blends containing more than 10 percent ethanol can cause engine damage to vehicles on the road and in smaller engines.
Based on the information revealed by the studies, the AFPM has asked the EPA to reconsider its E15 waiver decision.
If passed by Congress, the proposed legislation will set a cap of 10 percent ethanol (E10) that is approved for use in the nation’s gasoline supply.
Thus far, the EPA has stood by its decision to permit the sale of E15.
