Jan. 30, 2013—New research released today found that E15, which is gasoline blended with 15 percent ethanol, could result in fuel system failures for millions of post-2001 model year vehicles, according to the Coordinating Research Council (CRC).
"This latest research is further evidence that E15 is not just an abstract public policy gone wrong; it's likely to harm everyday consumers," said Charlie T. Drevna, president of American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM).
Based on the information revealed from an engine durability study and a newly released fuel pump study, the CRC has asked the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to examine the new information and reconsider its E15 waiver decision.
Thus far, the EPA has stood by its decision to permit the sale of E15.
