Nov. 13, 2015—General Motors has reportedly solidified a plan to import a model of Buick from China to the U.S., according to a report by USA Today.
GM will begin selling the Buick Envision, a vehicle that is already assembled in China, in the U.S. by early next year, according to the report. This would make GM the first Detroit automaker to export from China to the U.S.
GM’s plans come as it waits to hear whether the United Auto Workers (UAW) union has ratified a new four-year collective bargaining agreement promising pay increases to hourly workers.
GM has pledged to invest an additional $1.9 billion on top of an already committed $6.4 billion investment in U.S. plants over the next few years. However, that does not include tooling for and an assembly plant allocation for the Envision, according to USA Today.
