Aluminum F-150s Roll out of Ford's Kansas City Plant

March 17, 2015—On March 13, Ford’s assembly plant in Kansas City began production of the F-150. About 900 additional new employees and an investment of about $1.1 billion in new technology was put toward the Kansas City facility to build the popular truck, according to zacks.com.
The new F-150—also produced at a plant in Dearborn, Mich.—is the first mass-produced light-duty pickup truck with an aluminum body and steel frame. The F-150 has been the best-selling pickup truck in the U.S. for 38 consecutive years, and saw record sales in January of 2015.
Combined, the two plants are equipped to produce as many as 700,000 vehicles a year, serving 90 markets worldwide.
