Takata to be Fined $14K per Day by U.S. Regulators

Feb. 23, 2015

Feb. 23, 2015—U.S. regulators have begun to fine Takata $14,000 per day for failing to cooperate with a probe of its faulty air bags, according to a report from Reuters. The probe revealed the company has taken little action to repair the 17 million vehicles recalled due to faulty parts supplied by Takata.

Defective Takata air bag systems have been linked to at least six deaths, dozens of injuries, and several lawsuits as a result.

Takata failed to comply with orders from U.S. safety regulators that asked for documentation and other materials for a probe into the faulty air bags, according to the report.

Nearly 90 percent of the vehicles recalled are estimated to still need repairs.
