Renault-Nissan Announces Autonomous Vehicle Plan

Jan. 8, 2016

Jan. 8, 2016—Renault-Nissan announced on Thursday that it will launch more than 10 vehicles with autonomous driving technology over the next four years.

"Renault-Nissan Alliance is deeply committed to the twin goals of 'zero emissions and zero fatalities,'" said Carlos Ghosn, Renault-Nissan Alliance chairman and CEO. "That's why we are developing autonomous driving and connectivity for mass-market, mainstream vehicles on three continents."

In 2016, the automaker plans to debut vehicles with single-lane control, a feature that allows cars to drive autonomously on highways. In 2018, Renault-Nissan will launch vehicles with multiple-lane control, which can automatically negotiate hazards or change lanes during highway traffic. 2020 will see the launch of intersection autonomy, a feature which can navigate city intersections and heavy traffic without driver intervention.
