Energy Council Releases ‘Greenest,’ ‘Meanest’ Cars Lists

Feb. 6, 2015

Feb. 6, 2015—The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) released its 18th annual comprehensive environmental ratings for vehicles on Thursday.

The publication of the 2015 ratings coincides with the release of ACEEE’s new greenercars.org website that will now offer subscription-free access to all vehicle scores from model year 2000 and later.

The Mercedes-Benz Smart ForTwo Electric Drive Convertible/Coupe was named the greenest car, followed by the Chevrolet Spark EV. The full list of cars, along with scoring breakdowns, can be found at greenercars.org.

The council also named its “meanest” cars, or vehicles that are most harmful to the environment. The Meanest List this year is comprised of heavier, medium-duty vehicles and European sports cars that are the least friendly to the environment.

Two American trucks topped the list, with the Ram 2500 (Class 2b) taking first, and Chevrolet/GMC’s G2500 Express/Savana (Cargo Conversion) (MDPV) following suit.

The entire list can also be found at greenercars.org.
