Google Announces New Head of Self-Driving Car Program

Sept. 14, 2015

Sept. 14, 2015—Google Inc. is bringing in veteran Ford and Hyundai executive John Krafcik to head its self-driving car program, according to a report by Gabe Nelson of Automotive News.

Krafick comes to Google from TrueCar Inc., where he has served as president since April 2014. Before he was at TrueCar, he served as CEO of Hyundai Motor America from 2008-2013.

Google bringing on Krafick could help the company with solidifying relationships with suppliers and other partners.

"This is a great opportunity to help Google develop the enormous potential of self-driving cars,” Krafcik wrote in an email to Automotive News. “This technology can save thousands of lives, give millions of people greater mobility, and free us from a lot of the things we find frustrating about driving today. I can’t wait to get started."
