Dec. 27, 2013—NAPA Auto Parts of Cochrane, Alberta, has set up a trust fund for a family grieving the loss of its toddler, Travis Bertrand, 1, in a Calgary, Alberta, car crash that occurred on Dec. 18.
Chris Bertrand, an employee of NAPA, and his family were involved in the collision in which the family’s Dodge Ram truck climbed over the median and into the lane of an oncoming semi truck.
The mother of the child, as well as two other boys, were taken to the hospital after the crash. One boy was in stable condition, with the mother suffering only minor injuries.
Gerry Jackson, owner of the NAPA auto-shop, told the Cochrane Eagle that helping out Bertrand was an easy decision.
“Chris has touched a lot of people,” Jackson told the newspaper. “It’s going to be financially challenging for him and his family. We had to do something.”
A RBC trust fund in the name of the family has been created and can be accessed at branches across the country. As of Dec. 23, the LegUp.ca fund set up for the family has collected more than $4,000. Donations—monetary or otherwise—are being collected at the local auto shop.
