Subaru to Use Facial Recognition Tech to Limit Driver Fatigue

    April 3, 2018
The new Subaru Forester will be able to determine when drivers are too sleepy to drive, thanks to new technology.

April 3, 2018—The new Subaru Forester will be able to determine when drivers are too sleepy to drive, reports The Verge.

The new Forester made its debut at the New York International Auto Show recently, and with it came the unveiling of EyeSight, Subaru’s driver-assist technology. The new technology features facial recognition capabilities.

The new “DriverFocus” system uses facial recognition software to identify signs of driver fatigue or driver distraction. The feature can recognize up to five drivers and can remember pre-set preferences for seat position, climate, and infotainment. DriverFocus will come standard in the most expensive Touring trim version of the Forester.

EyeSight, on the other hand, is a standard driver-assist system with automatic pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure and sway warning, among other features. That system will come standard in all versions of the Forester.
