June 25, 2019—Jumpstart Auto Repair is celebrating a milestone this week, reports NBC26.

For a year now, they've been fixing cars for people in the community. At Jumpstart, though, that's only part of their story. Their main focus is to help domestic violence survivors with their car repairs.

"It's great to come to work every day and see the good that we're doing," general manager Katie VanderWielen said to NBC26.

According to the network, all proceeds from the shop help pay for the car repairs of a domestic abuse survivor. In one year, Jumpstart has done $20,000 of donated car repair work, and the shop has helped 72 survivors get safe and reliable transportation.

"I think we were all surprised with the number when we figured it out, and how much we actually did do." VanderWielen said.

Not having a car can make it harder for victims to leave an abusive relationship and become self-sufficient. At Jumpstart, women who come in struggling often leave smiling.

"This is just the little bit that we can give back," VanderWielen said.
