Toyota President: 'Silent Majority' Iffy on All-Electric Future

Dec. 28, 2022

Akio Toyoda believes there is a silent majority who feel similarly about reducing vehicle options on consumers.

Dec. 28, 2022—Toyota president Akio Toyoda continues to push back against the rapid race toward the adoption of all-electric vehicles.

According to The Street, Toyoda told the Wall Street Journal in a recent visit to Thailand that within the automotive industry lies a silent majority “... wondering whether EVs are really OK to have as a single option. But they think it’s the trend so they can’t speak out loudly.”

Toyoda is committed to Toyota’s continued production of gas-powered vehicles along with electric, hybrid and hydrogen-powered vehicles, stating that “... the right answer is still unclear, we shouldn’t limit ourselves to just one option,” Mr. Toyoda said.
