Sept. 13, 2022—The Biden Administration recently released its strategy for the CHIPS and Science Act implementation.
According to Fox Business, the CHIPS for America program plans to expand domestic semiconductor production in the United States. Additionally, the plan is to ensure an effective supply of mature node semiconductors. The program will invest in the research and development necessary to ensure domestic semiconductor longevity, and it will create "good-paying jobs" in the tens of thousands for manufacturing and in the hundred thousands for construction.
Fox Business reported $11 billion will be invested in a National Semiconductor Technology Center, up to three Manufacturing USA Institutes, a National Advanced Packaging Manufacturing Program and various NIST metrology development and research programs.
There will be a $28 billion investment in domestic production and logic and memory chip manufacturing. It is anticipated that the department will make awards that total to a value of $10 billion in an effort to increase domestic production.
The CHIPS and Science Act allots over $50 billion for implementation. Biden signed the bill into law in August.
