June 21, 2022—Sony and Honda have signed a joint venture that will establish a new company for the sale of high-value-added electric vehicles.
According to Just Auto, Sony and Honda aim to officially establish the company before the end of 2022 and start the sale of EVs and the provision of mobility services in 2025.
This announcement comes as a result of a discussion regarding a mobility strategic alliance held between the two companies back in March.
The partnership plans to marry Honda's technology, mobility development capacity, vehicle manufacturing expertise, and after-sales management experience with Sony's established history of imaging, telecommunications, and network and entertainment technology.
“Based on our vision to ‘make the mobility space an emotional one,’ Sony’s initiatives in the mobility business are centered around the three areas of safety, entertainment and adaptability. As we continue our learnings in these areas, we are excited to have met a partner, Honda, with extensive global achievements and knowledge, and to sign the joint venture agreement between the two companies.” Kenichiro Yoshida, chairman, president and CEO of Sony said, according to Just Auto.
