June 21, 2022—Ford has announced the recall of over 2.9 million vehicles.
According to The Washington Post, some Ford vehicles may roll away after being placed in park. This announcement comes after a similar recall announced back in April regarding 2015 Escapes.
This recent recall affects certain 2013-2019 Escapes, 2013-2018 C-Maxes, 2013-2016 Fusions, 2015-2018 Edges, and 2013-2021 Transit Connects.
The rollaway problem is caused by a defect in the bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission. If the bushing is damaged, then the car could potentially shift into an unintended gear causing an increased risk of the vehicle rolling and causing damage to property or injury.
Ford also acknowledged that drivers may not receive sufficient notice of the rollaway issue as it occurs. The automaker commented in a regulatory filing that “The driver does not receive a warning message or audible chime,” according to the article.
