April 18, 2020—A new lawsuit blames Hyundai for not making buyers aware of engine oil consumption issues in more than 20 of its models.
The plaintiffs say Hyundai should have recalled the engine. Hyundai’s original remedy—owners perform 1,000-mile interval tests and refill the reservoir as needed— was rebuffed by the owners of its cars. The company then offered to cover the replacement cost of the engine but asked buyers to pay $2,500, or 50 percent, themselves.
