ASE Hosts EV Safety Standards Workshop

April 13, 2022

The National Institute for Automotive Excellence is hosting a three-day-long workshop that includes input from industry experts on hybrid/electrical vehicle operation safety standards.

April 13, 2022—The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is hosting a three-day workshop—which began April 12—in Leesburg, Virginia.

According to a press release, this workshop focuses on safety standards for service professionals who work on electric vehicles. A group of high voltage subject matter experts from the automotive industry will join together with ASE to review high voltage vehicle electrical safety procedures and tasks.

The information and input gathered from this workshop will be used to establish a way to assess if an individual is qualified and able to work on or around high voltage vehicle electrical systems.

“The ASE board directed our technical staff to develop a high-voltage vehicle electrical safety standard for the tasks required of technicians and shop personnel working with, and around, high voltage vehicle systems. With the input we receive from this workshop, we will be well on our way,” said Tim Zilke, president and CEO of ASE in the press release. “We appreciate that so many of our industry partners are volunteering their time and expertise to come together to help us develop standards that will benefit the automotive industry and the motoring public.”

ASE industry partner participants on this initiative include: BMW NA, Bridgestone Firestone, Daimler Truck, Ford Motor Company, Honda, I-Car, Mercedes-Benz USA, Penske, Snap-on, Stellantis, Subaru, TA Petro, Toyota, Volkswagen/VW Academy and WorldPac. In addition to these participants, ASE will also partner with original equipment aftermarket organizations and electrical vehicle manufacturers.
