Scotch Cap Service Station, a staple in the Waterford, Conn. community for more than 80 years, will close on Sept. 30

Sept. 27, 2021—Scotch Cap Service Station, a staple in the Waterford, Conn. community for more than 80 years, will close on Sept. 30, The Day reported.

Owned by the Dunbar family for nearly that entire time, three generations of Dunbars have worked and owned the facility. Dennis Dunbar, the current owner, announced the news of the closing.

"To our valued and loyal customers, Scotch Cap Service will be closing our repair business on September 30th," a sign on the shop window says. "We have deeply appreciated your patronage and loyalty through these nearly 80 years my family has been here at this location."

Dunbar, 62, plans to retire. Neither his two daughters nor the shop’s other mechanic wanted to operate the facility going forward, Dunbar told the publication.
