Colorado Creates First Program To Stop Converter Theft

July 6, 2021—AAA Colorado and the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority have created the nation’s first catalytic converter anti-theft program, KDVR reported.

The program will give 10,000 Coloradans free devices that are chemically etched into catalytic converters to ensure it cannot be taken off. The devices serve essentially as a sticker that has a number on it. Each converter is given a number and is registered in an online database.

The sticker and its installation is free whenever motorists schedule regular maintenance at a participating AAA Approved Automotive Repair facility.
