Catalytic Converters Top 2020's Most Common Repairs

In a report from CarMD.com, oxygen sensor replacement, spark plug replacement, and fuel cap replacements also topped the list. 

 

April 23, 2021—The most common check engine light-related repair in 2020 was catalytic converter replacement, according to a press release. 

CarMD.com, an automotive diagnostic data and business solutions company, released its annual CarMD Vehicle Health Index on Wednesday and among the trends found were the most common check engine light-related repairs. 

Catalytic converter replacement was the most common followed by oxygen sensor replacement, ignition coil and spark plug replacement, mass air flow sensor replacement, and fuel cap replacement. 

The report also detailed that the average car repair cost, $378.77, was down 1.6 percent in 2020. Labor costs were down 2.8 percent and parts costs were down one percent. 

Additionally it found that model year 2007 vehicles were the most likely to need check engine light repairs, with nearly 10 percent of all repairs coming from the 2007 model year.
