April 19, 2021—Shell, the global energy and oil company, has prioritized electric vehicles in its efforts to cut emissions, CNBC reported.
Shell, currently the operator of 60,000 charging stations worldwide, aims to have 500,000 by 2025 and 2.5 million by 2030, Shell’s Downstream Director Huibert Vigeveno told the outlet. Shell had previously committed to a target of 2050 to achieve net-zero emissions.
In January, Shell announced plans to purchase the owner of the U.K.’s largest public electric vehicle charging network, ubitricity, according to Reuters. The company reportedly has more than 2,700 charge points in the country.
“If you look at the decarbonization opportunities of this mobility sector, EV plays a crucial role,” Vigeveno said.
